Y6 - Carrie's War

The children in Y6 have been reading 'Carrie's War' by Nina Bawden.  The book is set in WWII and follows the lives of two evacuees, Carrie and her younger brother Nick.  The story has been an exciting stimulus for character descriptions, narrative and descriptive writing.

Y5 - Newspaper Report Writing

In Year 5 we have been working on newspaper reports. Following the children's interest in Bonfire night, we wrote newspaper reports about an accident involving fireworks. We then assessed our own work, and the work of our peers, to set our own targets for our next piece of writing.

We are now in the process of writing a newspaper report based on our Ancient Greek topic and linked to the story of Troy. We have planned our writing using our iPads to support us.

Y4 - The Romans

The children in Y4 are currently studying the Romans and have read a the Roman legend about Romulus and Remus. The children did some role play, other drama activities and retold the legend. They have also written a persuasive letter to an Emperor asking him to abolish gladiator fights. The children created mind maps about what the Romans have done for us and also a short report about the Roman invasion of Britain.
