Year 6 - World War II

In Year 6 this week, we have started work on our History topic - How was Middlesbrough affected by World War II?  We have been discovering what we already know about WWII and developing questions we hope to find the answers to by the end of our work in this area.

We have also taken on the role of a newspaper reporter in  1939 and written a report about the declaration of war made by Neville Chamberlain on the radio on 3rd September 1939.

Year 5 - Greece

The children in Y5 have been enjoying learning about ancient and modern Greece.  They have been finding out about the array of black and red-figure pottery created by potters living in Ancient Greece.  After studying fables in English, the children chose their favourite as a stimulus for their own black-figure vase designs.  Popular choices included 'The Hare and the Tortoise',  'The Dolphin and the Monkey' and 'The Heron and the Wolf'.  We are looking forward to making them in the next week!

As part of our work for Diversity week, we have been learning how the economic problems in Greece are affecting the children living there.  We also found out about the Greek artist Nassos Daphnis, who is famous for his geometric designs and patterns.  We designed and produced our own pieces in this style!
