Year 6 - Exotic Animals

Year 6 have children have been planning and creating their very own creature! They have considered the animal's natural habitat, diet, behaviour and unique characteristics.  They have then used their plan to write:
  • a report on how to care for their exotic animal;
  • a balanced argument on whether or not it should be kept in captivity;
  • a first person diary entry being kept in captivity;
  • a first person diary entry living in the wild.
Throughout the pieces, the children have had chance to plan, edit and refine their work.  They have also enjoyed self and peer assessing their work, clearly identifying strengths and next steps.

They began the process by investigating existing products by bringing their own examples of wallets and purses in from home. Following this, they practised different types of stitching including running stitch, back stitch and over sewing stitch. They made a plan for their product before making it. Finally, they evaluated their product and considered ways they could improve it.

Year 3 - Stone Age

Year 3 have been researching cave paintings from the Stone Age. The children had to create a background wash and then create their own cave painting using pastels basing their design on their research. The children took part in Stone Age Day which involved a variety of activities such as building a camp, making a fire and preparing and cooking their own food which the children tasted at the end of the day.
